Oh boy did he make me laugh...

Picture
Lets take a trip down memory lane of a time when I sat in elementary school as a sixth grader and I watched my teacher Mr. Summer dazzle and amaze me as a student.   I don’t remember much of the subject he taught, what I do remember will give a glimpse as to what is my purpose for living in life is.

Question:  Who is your idol and why do you admire that person?

The answer may or may not be a famous person.  You might admire a colleagues giving, kindness, or thoughtfulness.  Or it could be someone really big like a Steve jobs, LeBron James, famous President, or you pick.  Take the comparisons to your self out, look at the characteristics, vision, ability to stay focused, humor, teacher, impacter, you name it.  Learn from that person , but be you.

I brought to you the image of Mr . Summer and let me tell you why.  As a child I was very impressionable and this teacher impressed me.  He impressed upon me the genuine nature of his care for the student.  I really felt cared for and looked forward to walking into his class every day.  Here is another thing that impressed me was his humor.  He was super funny and not awkward about it.  And the last thing that impressed me was how he communicated in teaching the lessons.  I really understood the lessons.  I cant fully recall today what subject we were learning al those years ago, but I do recall being focused , attentive and eager.

Every since those moments in life for me, I wanted to be a person that could do the same.  Impact lives with humor, teaching and care.  I saw the same qualities in my father when he pastored a church, he would “try” to be funny ..  hahahaha.  But he also would impact with his teachings and with care.

I share these things to give some direction and encouragement to take a step back and look into this part of your life to find out what direction you are heading or at least should be heading.  Your purpose is what that is your gift to the world and communities you are joined to.  Please take the steps of your course and walk them.

"Too Fat to Fly"

Picture
One thing I thought much about as a child was being a fighter pilot, call it “Top Gun” influence , or call it father was in military and being a pilot was something that intrigued me. But when you are a child you are mesmerized by certain things and have you ever asked the question of why that mesmerized you or what that meant to you at such and early age? The reason I didn’t pursue this dream and vision was because I had one person, just one person tell me I would be to fat to fly. There was a weight and height limit to being pilot. This wasnt from a credible source, just from a person that I looked up to and thought knew more than me. Didn’t help that it played on my insecurities because I was overweight for a kid. A “Childhood passion squashed.” Shaking my head today as a grown man. Don’t let me get on the topic of those that hold you back because of comments that aren’t true!

“To Fat to Fly”

I think back now at what gave me the desire to be a fighter pilot:
It was dangerous
It was about saving or helping others
It was about being the one that others saw as a hero
It allowed me to vanquish the enemy of those I care about
It allowed me to see the world, or at least country
I had a position of significance
I could pass on my knowledge to other fighter pilots
I wanted to see others fly as well.

I recommend looking at your childhood passions to get a good gauge of what your purpose is, or atleast walk you in that direction. What you can find by looking back and not living there is why you are wired the way you are wired. Purpose demands you to enjoy, and be passionate about your calling. Your calling is pictured like a voice in the wilderness, there is fog in the air and you can hear it faintly but not sure of where it’s truly coming from , but you know its there. As scary or fearful it could be, to take steps in the darkness towards that voice of desperation, you have to trust me that there is a clearing of sun , birds, view that can’t really be imagined.

My encouragement is that you do walk your walk and your walk alone. Not alone to where you don’t have drivers and supporters, but walk and run in your lane.

For Clarity Sake...

Picture
Around 9 years old I was at the edge of the bank of a lake, I vaugley remember fishing that day, but if I caught something it would have been memorable. What I do remember is that standing at the edge and looking down, there was a small pole on land and a rope with fish hanging just below the murky water. Well, I took one wrong step and slipped into the water, now I didnt know if the fish were alive or sharks existed in that murky water. If you were there you would have seen live the first boy to walk on water and not ever want to go into a lake again till he was older. There wasn’t any visibility in that water from where I was standing, and even in a pool something always looks like jaws swimming in the deep part of the pool.
I say all of this to bring up the topic of clarity:
CLARITY- The state of being clear, easily seen
Just for a moment take a deep breathe and think the word clarity, matter of fact repeat the word over and over in your mind , then repeat the word audibly out loud. If you took this exercise seriously, you may have experienced a couple of things; calmness, peace, maybe solutions, even possibly some direction. What I am trying to to get you to do is take a moment and think. “Thinking for a change,” as John Maxwell so briliantly wrote.
This is where the struggle lies in our lives in our mind a battle rages, the noise or distractions that come against us and in us so regularly through out the day are deafening. Think about the noise from work, the noise from family, the noise from business, the noise from yourself. All of these things lead to a lack of clarity. Allow me to share a few key principles to help with clarity factor-
THE CLARITY FACTOR
  1. LIST- a list of the things that bring clarity for action sake , make a list for yourself , your sanity. If you know what things bring you life or oxygen daily it will help in the clarity factor. Here is an example list like:
a. Pray
b. Exercise
c. Envision-meditate
d. Read
e. Share with others
2. TRUTH- a sense of truth, authenticity, integrity in your life brings tremendous clarity. This looks like being a person of your word, doing what you say you will do, work to be yourself and not someone else, evaluate your dreams and make sure its truly what you want and not borrowing them from others. Betru to yourself , so you can be true to others.
A man with integrity , walks securely (clarity)
I’ll stop right here, even though there is more to share. If you can master these two key principles over the next 60 days. You will exprience the clarity factor.
Now, go and grow my friend-

Over 40 and think it's too late...

Picture
The panic attack of what I thought and felt was a clock running out, the sand is almost at the bottom of the glass, the grey hairs are peeking in, the physical pains are more disticnt than years past. As real as this scenario is , its not the end of the story.
For many like myself hitting 40 was a turning point in my life. Which turn did it take? With the help of others the turn I took was, “it’s another decade to dominate!”
 “ITS ANOTHER DECADE TO DOMINATE”
My view is that there is still a whole lot of life left to live. I mean look around at the amazing people that are ahead of you 10, 20, 30, 40 years. Take a hard look at the positives in the world, not the people that have given up hope or live a life of regrets. Look to the individuals, couples, professionals, athletes, community leaders, non-profit leaders that are 20–30 years your senior and see how they look, what they do and how they have a positive outlook on life.
Since turning 40 my mindset has shifted, I am feeling and becoming more aware of myself. Let that sink in, matter of fact say this aloud:
“I AM BECOMING MORE AWARE OF MYSELF”
Awareness is an important factor in bringing success and direction for your life. Opportunities look different, gratitude is a more driving force. What used to bother you 10 years ago, is and should be a distant memory, because you have changed, man, “I have changed.”
My son who is 13 will get the better version of me as a man, father than my children that are in their 20’s. Only simply because I have matured more spirtually, emotionally and mentally. In my 40’s so far I am completing a second book, I am going to run my first Spartan Race, and I have so far lost 70lbs. This is just to name a few things, and the beginning
I say all these things to encourage you, that it’s not too late, that a life ended exhausted because you gave all of yourself to others and a cause vs. living with a life of regrets is well worth it. Imagine what you could do in one year, 5 years, 10 years, 20, years , 30 years from now, wow, “just imagine!” You have so much left in you to give and to pass on, because once the mortuary buries your cold body, “That’s it.”
Desire to leave a legacy today.
God Bless,
Coach Milton
